Do not overrate what you  have received, Nor envy other.

He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind

The Serenity of Contentment: A Tale of Inner Harmony

Introduction

In the bustling city of Tranquil Springs, there lived a humble tea merchant named Mei. Her little shop, nestled between fragrant cherry blossoms, attracted weary souls seeking solace. Mei held a secret—a wisdom passed down through generations: “Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.” These words adorned her shop’s entrance, etched into a wooden plaque.

The Gifted Teapot

One misty morning, a traveler named Koji entered Mei’s shop. His eyes widened at the exquisite teapots lining the shelves. Mei noticed his longing gaze and offered him a simple clay teapot. “This one,” she said, “holds the essence of patience and warmth.” Koji hesitated, glancing at a gilded porcelain teapot nearby. Mei smiled knowingly. “Remember the quote,” she whispered. “True value lies beyond appearances.”

The Envious Rival

Across the street, a rival tea merchant named Hiro operated a lavish emporium. His teapots gleamed with gold leaf, and his teas were infused with rare spices. Hiro eyed Mei’s humble shop with envy. “Why settle for mediocrity?” he scoffed. “Customers crave opulence!” Yet, despite his grandeur, Hiro’s heart remained restless.

The Tea Tasting

Word spread about Mei’s tea. Curious patrons flocked to her shop. Mei brewed a delicate jasmine tea, its fragrance dancing like moonlight on water. Koji sipped, his eyes closing in bliss. “This,” he declared, “is true peace.” Hiro, disguised in a silk robe, sneaked in. The jasmine tea touched his lips, and tears welled up. “I’ve been chasing illusions,” he confessed.

The Wisdom Shared

Mei invited Hiro to sit. “Envy blinds us,” she said gently. “Your gold-laden teapots may dazzle, but they lack the soul of simplicity. True peace lies in appreciating what we have—our modest teapots, our shared moments.” Hiro listened, his heart thawing. Mei poured tea into both their cups, and they sat in companionable silence.
