The Cherokee’s Tale of Two Wolves

You are the choices you make up in your life. You are what you settle for.

There is an old story about a Cherokee Master who was teaching his grandson about life.

The wise old man said to the young boy, “A fight is going on inside me. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

After the grandson gave a thought about it for a minute or two, he asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old man simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Which wolf do you feed?

Life is made up of choices.

We are continuously choosing which way to live, through our thoughts, words and actions—some of us do it knowingly, others unknowingly.

Therefore, by changing the way we think, speak and act, we can change our entire life. It is therefore in our own hands to choose which direction to go, what inner qualities to cultivate, and what kind of life to lead.

“As the holy and the righteous cannot rise beyond the highest which is in each one of you, so the wicked and the weak cannot fall lower than the lowest which is in you also.” ~Kahlil Gibran
