Son Of A Sweeper From Assam Gets Selected For Football Training In Germany

Harsinga is a tiny town in Assam’s remote Udalguri district that is spread along the Indo-Bhutan border. Afflicted with insurgency and rendered poor because of the lack of connection with the mainland, the locals of Harsinga face some serious trials in order to survive the worsening conditions. However, a piece of good news has brought cheer to the village, and the source of this cheerfulness is nine-year-old Chandan Boro.

Chandan, who is the son of a sweeper, has been selected for a residential football training course for six years in Germany. Chandan was selected at a camp organized at the district’s SAI center by the Tata Trust in association with Germany under U Dream football (a talent-hunting program governed by German Bundesliga for finding and supporting talented players below the age of 15). Needless to say, this achievement of Chandan has given a lot of hope to the villagers besides bringing immense pride to his parents and coaching staff.

We are extremely happy and hopeful. He (Chandan) has become popular among the villagers as the ‘Germany going boy’. It’s good that everybody has supported him which will encourage the boy,” said Samuel Basumatary, Chandan’s coach while addressing the press with a bright smile on his face.

Chandan is a very confident young boy

“I’m feeling great. I don’t know much about the country (Germany) but I am confident of going there and playing good football,” Chandan said to the press, sporting a jersey of Germany’s most powerful football club Bayern Munich FC.

At 9 years of age, he is already an inspiration for many!

Chandan’s achievement is worthy of praise as he has proved his mettle by overcoming all hindrances. He has also proved that determination can help one rewrite his/her destiny. Chandan’s selection came as an inspiration to many kids particularly the girls, who had earlier shied away from football, have now come out to play the game.

The Don’t Give uo world  wishes Chandan all the best for his future. We are hopeful and confident that Chandan’s story will inspire a new wave of football fever in India and perhaps he will help India is improving its global rankings in Football.
