Silver Assured, Gold Awaited: P V Sindhu Makes History, Storms Into Olympic Finals

After 11 Days Of Being Without Medal, India Now Has Two Assured Medals.

It has been a historic day for India in the Olympics 2016. After Sakshi Malik clenched a bronze medal in Women’s freestyle wrestling in the 58 Kgs division, now our star shuttler PV Sindhu has fetched us another medal by winning the semi-final against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara (21-19, 21-10).

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (born 5 July 1995) is an Indian badminton player. On 10 August 2013, Sindhu became the first ever Indian women’s singles player to win a medal at the World Championships. On 30 March 2015, she received India’s fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri. On 18 August 2016, she became the first Indian woman to reach Olympic finals after beating Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the semi-finals of Rio Olympics 2016. She broke into the Top 20 in the Badminton World Federation rankings released on 21 September 2012.

With this epic win, Sindhu became the first Indian badminton player to reach an Olympic final. She will meet Spain’s Carolina Marin for the title clash on Friday at 7:30pm.
