Age is just a number! And some make it look so true.
106-year-old Aida Gemanque broke the record becoming the oldest Olympic torch bearer. She carried the flame in the Amazonian city of Macapa on Saturday, 19th June. She broke the record earlier held by Alexander Kaptarenko, who was 101 when he took part in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics relay.
She holds another world record of the oldest skydiver in the world, which she did there years ago.
“I am overjoyed. I have to be grateful for this joy, which I never expected in my life. I am immensely proud,” Gemanque said to the media.
The 95-day torch relay will end on August 5 at Rio’s Maracana Stadium for the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. And it will pass through 325 Brazilian cities and involve about 12,000 runners.
The Don’t Give Up World Team salutes the spirit of Gemanque. She is really an inspiration to millions.
