Indian Shooters Win Four Gold Medals In ISSF Junior World Cup

The Indian contingent of shooters won 13 medals, including four golds, after the second day of ISSF Junior World Cup for pistol, rifle and Shotgun in Gabala, Azerbaijan.

On the first day, India picked up seven medals, including three golds.

India picked up six more medals — of which one was gold — on day two, to lie second behind Russia in the medal tally.

With this, the total medal tally now stands to 13.

The first gold for India was brought by Subhankar Pramanik who gave his best international performance with a score of 613.8, qualifying in sixth position for the eight-man finals in 50-metre rifle prone event.

In the finals, he shot 205.5 over 20 shots to defeat Filip Nepejchal of the Czech Republic, who scored 205.2 and won the silver. The Bronze was won by Dragomir Iordache of Roumania.

India’s second gold was bagged by Sambhaji Patil when he won the junior men’s 25-metre standard pistol event by shooting 562 to defeat Australians Sergei Evglevski and James Ashmore.

Sambhaji also added the team gold in the event along with compatriots Gurmeet and Rituraj Singh to take India atop the medal tally, adding to the silver won in the junior men’s team rifle prone and two bronze medals.

On day 2, India’s only gold medal came in the junior women’s 10m Air Pistol event, when Yashaswini Singh Deswal, Malaika Goel and Harshada Nithave combined for a total score of 1122 to finish way ahead of second-placed Turkey’s score of 1104.

Earlier in May, India had finished fourth in year’s first Junior World Cup in Suhl Germany. India won three gold, four silver and three bronze medals in the event.
