Indian Army Gorkha Rifles Won GOLD Medal At Cambrian Patrol, UK

A battalion from the Indian Army’s Gorkha Rifles has won a gold medal at one of the world’s most gruelling and challenging joint military exercises.

The team 2/8 Gorkha was from the 2nd Battalion of the Gorkha Rifles. The “Exercise Cambrian Patrol” is organised by the British Army in the rugged mountains of Wales. This annual international military exercise is regarded as one of the toughest military exercises presently.

The Gorkhas also presented a memento to the army of the United Kingdom. A traditional Khukri, an ornamental utility knife which forms a significant part of this regiment was presented as a token of respect.

The exercise consists of a 55-km course that is spread across the Cambrian Mountains. It is a task-oriented exercise, which means the participating team must complete all given tasks. A time bound exercise, this must be done within 48 hours. And the patrol must carry its full personal kit and equipment.

The teams are given points based on their performances in every military task. The assessment is on the basis of military skills, completion of orders and teamwork. Other factors that were assessed include dismounted close combat skills; obstacle crossing drills; first aid procedures; recognition of aircraft; vehicles and equipment; IED and minefield clearance drills; patrol techniques.

The Don’t Give Up World Team congratulates Gorkha Rifles for winning the award and we hope they keep making us proud.
