Mahima Nagpal of R S Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar Ludhiana: bagged the first rank in Class XII state board examinations in the non-medical stream, the results of which were announced on last Friday. She secured 99.56 per cent marks.
Mahima’s father, Sanjeev Kumar, is suffering from paralysis due to which movement of facial muscles is impeded. However, his happiness is evident from the sparkle in his eyes similar to the one that appeared two years ago when Mahima had secured the second rank in the Class X board examinations.
“My father’s face is my only inspiration. I have no other wish than to make him happy. Even in his condition, he still goes to the scrap shop so that we do not suffer. Battling sickness, my father, Sanjiv Nagpal, supports a family of four where her younger brother also reads, made good use of the fee concession,with an income of Rs 10,000 a month.My mother, Poonam Nagpal, is a housewife,stitches clothes, to support the family. My success is a tribute to both of them,” says Mahima. The family lives in a small quarter of Abdullahpur Basti.

She had been studying for 18-20 hours daily. “My daughter made me proud after achieving such position”, said Mahima’s mother Poonam Nagpal, adding her daughter was very hard-working and want to become an IAS officer.
She aspires to get into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and draws light of inspiration from her physics teacher, Sangeeta. “I never took any private coaching,” says the topper, “self study is the best.”
