Demonetisation : Heartwarming Stories Of Help From Across The Country

The past couple of weeks have been very stressful for everyone. Despair and dejection have been a common theme. Amidst all the chaos, we heard some wonderful and heartwarming instances of people coming forward to help those waiting for their turn in long queues for hours at banks and ATMs. Here are some of these uplifting incidents.

The Sikh community was among the first to come forward to help the citizens in time of need. Sikh men served tea to the people standing outside the banks in Punjab, images of which went viral on social media. Elsewhere, younger members of the community were seen distributing biscuits and tea. The local political party volunteers also came forward to help fill the forms for people.

There were also reports of gurdwaras opening the donation boxes to help people with petty change and smaller denomination notes.

Retired bank employees are coming forward to offer help to their contemporaries. Stories of former employees in Tamil Nadu and Assam, volunteering at the banks they worked with previously have been shared on social media.

Many private organisations are also contributing to making the process a tad bit more comfortable. While some are serving tea and coffee, some others are providing refreshments. For instance, PepsiCo is distributing their 7UP Revive drink to people sweating it out in long queues under the blazing sun, to help them feel active and hydrated.

Banks are also doing their best to help make the transactions easier and wait times better. Some have deployed mobile ATMs and extra micro ATMs, many have put up marquees or pandals to provide some shade, and some have made seating arrangements outside the banks for the customers.

Many youngsters and young professionals are spending their weekends volunteering outside the banks. Many are also travelling to nearby villages to help the people understand all the latest developments and processes, and also fill the forms for them.

Many cases of ambulances, pharmacies, hospitals refusing to take Rs. 500 and Rs 1000 notes, leading to deaths have emerged over the past week. But the medical fraternity too saw its share of heroes. A hospital in Jharkhand and some doctors in different parts of the country are not charging any fee to treat their patients till the situation settles.

The Police manning the crowds too came forward to help. Police in UP and Gujarat were seen distributing water and refreshments to the people waiting outside the banks.

Individuals and organisations alike are doing their best to help.

The Don’t Give Up World  salutes every person rising up to face this challenging time with grit and strength. We thank everyone for showing that we are a resilient group of people who will come together for a greater good.
