“She had the umbilical cord still attached to her. She was shivering and was breathing slowly.”

A recent heartbreaking incident has come to light where the staff of the RK Puram police station in South Delhi found a newborn baby abandoned under the Munirka flyover in south Delhi.

As reported by Hindustan Times, the police control room received a call around 1 AM informing about an infant lying on the footpath inside a plastic bag under Munirka flyover.

The police team rescued the baby and took her to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The baby is being looked after by three women police personnel and the medical staff. Station house officer Somnath Paruthi and other police station staff bought baby clothes, food and other necessary items. They also named her “Swadha” which means divine approval.

“She was found in a plastic bag with a cotton cloth wrapped around her body; she had the umbilical cord attached to her. She was shivering and was breathing slowly.” A senior police officer informedHindustan Times that whoever abandoned baby clearly wanted her to die.

A case has been registered under Section 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years, by parents or person having the care of it) of Indian Penal Code at the RK Puram Police Station.

The biological parents are being traced by the police and The Joint Commissioner; R P Upadhyay has instructed additional DCP, Nupur Prasad to monitor the health condition of the child.

The Don’t Give Up World Team  salutes the Delhi cops for saving the girl child and taking care of her. Though it’s sad to see that even after 69 years of independence, girls are treated as the burden in society and are less welcomed in a family. We urge every family to preach humanity over gender disparities and make this world a better place for a girl child!
