1931: Born Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam on October 15, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
1954: Graduates in Physics from Saint Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli

1955: Moved to Madras to study aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology
1960: Gains degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology

1960: Joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation as a scientist
1963: visited NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton

1965: First started work on an expandable rocket project independently at DRDO
1969: Received the government’s approval and expanded the programme to include more engineers

1969: Transferred to ISRO from the DRDO
1970: Successfully developed the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and SLV-III projects

1971: Directed two projects, Project Devil and Project Valiant
1980: Appointed Chief Executive of the program named Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP)

1980: India enters the space club by putting the Rohini satellite in the near earth orbit with the first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III), developed under the stewardship of Dr. Kalam
1981: The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan

1990: The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan for his work with ISRO and DRDO
1992: Served as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation
